After the success with the 10 Peaks Lakes in 2015 we thought it would be a shame not to include the 10 Peaks team’s other main event for 2016. We needed to head for Wales again too, as we didn’t have a Welsh race in 2015. There’s less climbing than the Lakes race, but there’s still a lot of up and down, and it’s a much longer race too. It’s probably going to turn out to be the toughest of the 2016 races, unless the Fellsman delivers bad weather again.
This is a huge day out, running east to west from Talybont Reservoir across the Brecon Beacons hilltops to Bannau Sir Gaer, then back again across different tops. If the weather’s not good it could easily turn into an epic, and even in good weather it’s a hard race to complete. If you’re not familiar with the Brecon Beacons it’s worth noting that they are of similar height to the Lakes mountains. Pen y Fan is the highest at 886 meters, and yes, you do climb it.
Make sure you pick the Long option when you enter: the shorter 58km race doesn’t count for Runfurther.
