This event is another classic, following three loops out from the old town of Shap in Cumbria, on the A6 east of the Lakes.  You can do whichever loops you like, but to count for Runfurther you must do all three loops, 62 miles in total.  The terrain is very varied, the first loop to the west taking in the boggy ground of Mosedale and two Wainwright tops, the second the green valleys to the north, and the third the beautiful limestone country to the east.

It is a Long Distance Walkers Association challenge event, not a race, so please respect the walkers’ and the organisers’ points of view: they are not in a hurry, as that’s not the point of the event.  There are opportunities to cut corners off the route, and you are on your honour not to do this, but to follow the official route all the way.
